Pinecone liquor
Make you own pine cone liquor
Have you ever thought of making you own pine cone liquor? Yeah?, well here you are at the right address
It is not hard at all, and the results are super!
What do you need for this drink?
- young green pine cones
- juniper or another fire water type with 40% alcohol
- sugar
- a clean recipient that is large enough
- a scale
- strainer
How to?
in the month of May or early June you will see in the pine trees that young green pine apple are formed. Pick these and put them in a small bowl. As you will note there is a lot of turpentine to those pine cones. This will later provide the typical flavor of the pine cone liqueur.
Clean the pine cones with water in order to get the dust off. You might have to rub with a cloth on the pine cones to clean everything as thoroughly as possible. If this doesn’t work, discard the pine cone and pick a new one. Pine cones are in abundance.
Once the pine apple are clean, put them in the container. A carboy is also well suited. Make sure your pine apples easily fit the opening of the carboy . This will saves you a lot of worries later.
Pour the gin or spirits in the recipient and add the sugar.
Now you mix th pine cones, gin and sugar thoroughly by shaking, so that the sugar completely dissolves in the gin. Once the sugar is well dissolved put the carboy in a place where you regularly come. It is the intention to take the bottle a shake the mixtures carefully once in a while. This is done for about a week. Then let the mixture rest! After a month or two, three, four, pour the contents of the container through a strainer into a bottle. The bottle is now ready for some rest. A good tip here is: the longer you wait the better.
You’ll ask yourselves, “should it take so long?” Absolutely not. You can also accelerate this procedure. However, I have the experience that the longer you leave everything wait how smoother the taste of the final result will be.
Go ahead and try!
